Lancaster is not a bad town, it has more shopping places than Pageland. It has the basic Walmart, Kmart, Goody's, Lowes, Home Depot and several other stores. Lancaster also has its own hospital where as if you live in Pageland most people end up going to the hospital in Monroe, NC. Lancaster has several nice places to live. Lancaster has more to offer as it is a bigger town. I'm not sure about the schools, I know it has the University of SC-Lancaster branch there.

Pageland is ok. Not much there, but also not far from other areas to go shopping. It all depends on what you like. We live in Lancaster and like it here. We don't have all the stores that I wish we had, but it isn't that far to drive to Rock Hill or Charlotte or even Camden. We have 3 children in Lancaster County Public schools. In my opinion they are great schools. We have family back in MD and I taught in MD before moving here 16 years ago, and I can say that the curriculum here is tougher then in MD. Our kids are learning a lot more then my nieces in MD who are in the same grades. Not sure about Pageland schools, but they are probably ok too.

Thanks for the info. We were looking for like a town with things to do and not have to drive far to go to a store and a town where houses aren't on top of each other. I live in Avoca, PA, its a small town, about 2100. I have a corner lot and the nearest house is like 30 yards away to the left and about 50 yards to the right. So most likely its gonna be Lancaster since there are stores and things around. With the gas being $3.45 I don't want to drive far to go anywhere, work I could always carpool. Thanks again.

I spoke to a friend of mine in Lancaster and she said she had no complaints about the schools that she was very pleased with them. She said the cost of living in Lancaster is higher than Pageland but it was worth it.

Housing
You shouldn't have to worry about finding a house that has some room around it. Even in town most of the houses are on at least .5 acre lots some are less but not many. There are a lot that are .5 acre to 1 acre lots. If you get outside town limits, Lancaster or Pageland you can find places that have up to 5 acres quite common. From Pageland, Monroe is only about 20-30 minutes. So just depending on where your job is located. Good luck.

Lancaster has a population of 8000 and has a decent amounts of stores there (Belks, Walmart, Kmart, etc.) Walmart is always packed. Also has alot of restaurants (Ryans, Applebees, Subway, Wendys, Bojangles, etc.). Has a nice hospital and is home to USC-Lancaster. Has one 18 hole golf course and a few car dealerships. I would recommend it. Lancaster High School is a 4A high school which has over 1000 students

>> I used to live in Pageland. It is a very nice place. There are no malls there, but they do have stores. Of course it has been about 16 years since I lived there, but lived close to it for 12 years. Hwy 9 & 151 were bringing new things, because it is a throughway from Charlotte to Myrtle Beach. Schools are small but good. Hope this information helps.

Hi Stan1977, If you are looking for real country, nothing to do after 6pm and going to the grocery store is your way of entertainment, then Pageland is for you. I would advise you to move to Lancaster. Theres shopping, eatting places and you are an hour or less depending on where in Lancaster you live, from Charlotte, NC. This is the biggest major city close by. Where exactly will you be working? Pageland is real small hometown, everything closing at night. Nothing else to do. Lancaster will give you hometown feel and more choices of other things. Another great place is Monroe, NC just 20 mins north of Pageland. At least there you have a mall as well as other shopping areas, movie theater, 24 hour Walmart, public, charter, and private schools. You can still have that country feel with the perks. However it is up to you. If you want to live in a place where there is nothing to do besides church and going to the grocery store then Pageland is the place for you. Your children however will hate growing up there and will be more than happy to leave home after high school. Hope this info is helpful.

I just moved to Pageland from New Jersey. I love it here. I haven't had any issues at all. I found work outside of Pageland though. It's a bit of a drive but I do have to say everything is so much cheaper here. I also have two kids 12 and 16 and they both attend public schools in town. New Heights and Central. Both schools have been more than helpful with the transition and making the adjustments from a larger town easier. As far as not having much to do for kids, I do have to agree. But at the same time I tend to do a lot of stuff with my kids, I've just had to be a bit more creative to keep them entertained. As you said, if you like country living.. this would work fine I believe.
