Default Living in the South

My husband was offered several jobs and a few were in the South. We ended up taking one in a state simular to the state we live in now Michigan. After reading the postings I 'm not sure if it would be easy to adjust from North to South although I would really like to. I know this sounds silly but after reading postings about the different bugs that the South has , that would be a real problem for me to adjust to. I'm sure those in the South would not like adjusting to 90 inches of snow that we have and just deal with it as you all deal with the bugs. I was wondering from those that left states like Michigan. Minnesota, Indiana ect How you adjusted .

We really don't have a huge bug problem that you may be thinking. Sure we have the infamous "palmetto bug" but as long as you treat your home a couple times a year you will have no problem. I am orginally from Illinois and the bugs are really no worse or different here than there.

We do have small lizards that run around in the summer but they are harmless and kinda cute once you get use to them. : ) I wouldn't change my course of moving just because of what you have read about bugs. Bugs will be everywhere u go.

I agree with Beachteach............
I have more Bugs I have to deal with when I am in Pa then when I am down south.
Yes, there was some palmetto bugs, but.......spray on a maintenance plan and you'll hardly have any at all.
Here in Pa we have "stink bugs" that came over on a shippment from Asia into Allentown. They are ugly, they will cause a stink if you try to move them, and they can be alive in the winter months. Yuck...........then add its friend the "wheelbug" that has a sting worse then a hornets......it has a wheel like gadget on its back. It stings from another area under its chin. The sting area will be inflamed for 2 weeks to 6mts.........Lucky I have seen them here, but no one has been stung. I cringe when I see one land on a garage door, or a window.
Bugs are everywhere though, so I just try to keep up with spraying.
I think you'd love the weather.........and .........gosh no, I couldn't shovel all those inches. I use to, but I'm a donena' now

Depends on what type of area you move to and if you will be close to water, lots of trees etc... I moved to an area that's somewhat rural and there's tons of bugs. I lived in NJ and PA, so in my experience there are a lot more bugs in the area of SC I live in now. That's doesn't mean it will be the same for you because I have friends here that don't have near as many as me because they live in a sub-division, where I live more in a wooded area. As others said, you can get pest control, I have someone come every three months and spray. I understand how you feel because I am really freaked out by bugs and I'm still trying to get used to them. Overall, there are so many good things about living here, that it makes it easier to deal with the bugs.

BUGS ! Im not going to worry about them . when i have to spray for bugs around my home when i get settled sc , ill just remind my self that from november to march i won't have to deal with 300 inches of snow and -30 degree air temps. just the thought of not having to go out to do snow removal gives me a warm fuzzy feeling inside LOL

I wouldn't worry so much about bugs -- my house is infested with termites at the moment and I'm not really worried about it (the paranoia phase of finding them has come and gone....).

The fire ants, giant spiders, and roaches are what gets me. If you really want a better place to live though, the little things will not bother you. There are tons of people from Michigan here in SC -- as a matter of fact people from Michigan don't really catch any of the animosity that other Northerners get (people from Michigan have better attitudes it seems).

Don't mind the bugs or humidity and you'll do just fine.
