They are tearing down the 8 Story Florentine Building at Coit and Evans and have plans to build a Parking Deck with Retail on that location.
There is an article regarding this floating on SCNOW.com, I will try and find it and link it here.
No not the Florentine!!!! that was one of the early "skyscrapers". There was also the old Mcleod Hospital that used to sit Cheves and Dargan Street where the Florence Museum is now located. When I was at FMU in the 1990s it was still standing but vacant along with a ratty old Myrtle Beach looking motel.. both made downtown Florence look like something out of a Charles Bronson Death Wish Movie.. (Specifically Death Wish 3) I know I am dating myself That said.. for those of you who didnt know downtown Florence in the 1990s.. it was a place that most people didn't want to go unless they were going to the Court House.. by choice or by force.. Today is a 180 from those days....
Florence to get Texas based gas station Buc-Ees. Only the 2nd location in the USA to be located outside of Texas.
Location at I95 and Highway 327 (Exit 170)
Buc-Ees is awesome, y'all will love it. I know, I know, we're talking about a convenience store chain...but it really does live up to the hype.
