East of I-95 is going to be their sweet spot.
You can live in Metro Columbia and be around an hour to the beach*

My suggestion would be Conway.

Columbia is about 2 to 2.5 hours from the beach in regular traffic.

My suggestion would be that SC is probably not your best choice.

Please demonstrate how one gets from the Columbia metro to the beach in a hour? By helicopter?

Yes, the city. But the metro varies.

The edge of St. Mathews, by the interstate in Calhoun County, to Sullivan’s is 1hr20min. Speed like everyone does (like 80-85) and it’s an hour. Maybe like hr and 10. And just wait until they add Newberry County, Sumter County, and Orangeburg County to the metro. If they still had the old rules before the ‘10 census then they’d already be a part of it. Once that happens it’ll be even closer. Thanks to Orangeburg. But even today the edge of the metro in Calhoun County is still about an hour to the beach.

You're really, really reaching. If you know anything about Charleston traffic, you know your numbers are off.

Orangeburg, which is in no way, shape, or form part of the Columbia metro, is 1 1/2 hours from Folly Beach.

Orangeburg County is in the Columbia CSA. Still, it's not within 1 hour of any beach.
