Smile Try Liberty, SC

I've recently moved from Greenville to Liberty and I like it. It's a small town w/ a Main Street and there is a stage for singing on Friday nights. There are very good restaurants on Main. Hope this helps in your search.

Chester actually has a pretty neat downtown area. But I must also put in a plug for Aiken; very nice.

Just returned from Fort Mill area. Tega Cay looks like a wonderful community teeming with activity(and therefore might become a bit [more] congested in time). All the conveniences abound with many, many new housing communities. If you are retiring and looking for a single story home, you will have great difficulty finding one. Just outside Tega Cay development the countryside is beautiful. Trees everywhere except in some places where a developer has shaved the ground clean and put up two story homes with almost no space in between them.

Crime statistics in Tega Cay appear extremely low. Surrounding towns such as Fort Mill somewhat higher, but these statistics can sometimes be deceiving. Fort Mill and Indian Land (Lancaster county) schools are very highly regarded. Home prices are very diversified, from the mid $100's to the mid $500's and up. Suggest you size up the areas by driving around a two or three mile radius before you make any serious decisions. Finally, realtors and new home community salespeople will tell you the market is on fire in SC and NC, but be careful because some analysts believe the entire bubble is about to burst.

Spartanburg fits the bill as well. The Converse Heights neighborhood particularly. Every year we have a big neighborhood 4th of July parade, everyone brings out their kids at halloween, and Christmas time is like a festival of lights. It is a very short car ride from downtown and is a very quiet, friendly neighborhood.
