Information on Living In North Augusta, SC
I plan on visiting "Mount Vintage Plantation" in North Augusta, SC in the hopes of moving there from the insane Washington DC Metro area. Would someone please give me some advice/thoughts/opinions on the area. Also, I am not closed minded to just "Mount Vintage Plantation", because I would love to find a lot or a home on a wooded lot on a lake or river. I would appreciate any information you can provide.

I wish I knew more about Mount Vintage. If golf is important to you, I understand from my golfing brother-in-law that the course is great. It's supposed to share some design features with Augusta National.
Mount Vintage is as close to Edgefield as it is to North Augusta -- maybe 10+ backroad miles or so from both.

I know people that live there
I know people who live there, and they have been very happy. They love the golf course and enjoy the activities that the clubhouse has to offer. I know there is alot of construction going on and many more homes are being built.
I think the downside is that you are NOT close to any major airport. You pretty much are in the middle of nowhere. Shopping, etc. is at least a half-hour if not more to any type of shopping.
From what I know, it's a pretty "elite" area that gives you the feel of a decent private golf-course community. I do know the golf course closes Masters week....just an fyi....

Information on Living In North Augusta, SC
Nanseev and wsaiken - thank you for your valuable input. I am not a golfer, but the amenities and and secluded area did appeal to me. I like the woodsy, rolling hills out in the country feel that N. Augusta has, especially since I live just south of crazy Washington DC. Shopping and my love for good restaurants may be an issue, but I could get my fix in Augusta, GA. Thank you for mentioning the lack of an international airport. That would be a problem for me and something I need to consider. Thank you again for the wonderful input.

There's an Augusta outfit that shuttles people to Atlanta, which is about 3 hours away. Charlotte is closer, but you'd have to drive. Columbia or Augusta would fly you to one of those destinations.
Now if YOU fly, you could buy in Twin Lakes. It's not fancy, but it comes with its own neighborhood runway. I know a couple that loves it there.

We are planning to move to Mount Vintage sometime next year and we, too, liked the rolling hills and country feel to it. Of course, living there might be different, but when you relocate, you just never know. Perhaps we'll meet.

Life is good at Mount Vintage
We moved here last year. A good friend here moved from the DC area the year before we did. We really enjoy the place and the people. We bought a house and two lots but are going to move to another plantation to get a bigger lot to keep horses on our own property. The lots are for sale if you are interested. Let me know and I'll give you the info.

I looked at Mount Vintage and felt it was too far out from everything and a little too "country clubbish" for my taste.
We wound up buying land in Aiken and building a home. Of course, I'm into horses so maybe my type of living wouldn't appeal to you. Our new area is only 5 minutes to the mall and groceries and 14 miles from historic downtown Aiken, which is lovely.
Take a trip down and look it over before you do anything because their brochure makes it look great, but pay attention to what is around the area.
