Default Williamsburg,Darlington,Marlboro Counties.

Greetings,

Hopefully, there is someone out here who can provide information to a 49 year old Blackman, who is interested in relocating to one of these areas. If u will please include the Charleston area also. I am in San Diego, Ca now, but my Fathers family is from South Carolina and I'm involved with some genealogy research that leads me to come to your State. I'm very interested in staying being that the economy is more friendly there also, and would like to connect with my Fathers people that I have never met before.

These are the ? that I have please, I want blantantly honest people to answer regardless of race, I'd like to hear from the Whites down there as well as the Black, all races incouraged to give their piece.

1. What are the race relations like in those Counties?
2. How long does it take outsiders to find work? (Clerical)
3. What is the racial composition of the police force in those Counties?
4. What is Williamsburg like, the black part of the County and the white?
5. What businesses are in Williamsburg?
6. What is the average rent in a two bedroom apt in Williamsburg and what is average rent for a two bedroom house if renting is a option?
7.I'd like to hear from the blacks in Darlington, Marlboro Counties on what they think of their Counties. Don't hold back the negative.
8. Are there any illegal immigration hostilities in these Counties,or should I say how has Illegal immigration affected these Counties and surronding areas in South Carolina in general if that makes any sense.

Thank you for your patience.

(I am a white female)...I can only tell you a few things about Williamsburg County...

-I do not think there are many issues regarding race in WC. There is a large african american population in the area.

-As far as finding work, most of the african american women I know that work clerical jobs are employed by the Clerk of Court in Kingstree, the Police Dept. and other areas of the court. Hemingway is another town located in WC and is a little more rural than Kingstree.

-It would depend on which town you were referring to when it came to racial composition. WC borderlines Georgetown County on the outskirts of Andrews and other towns. I would say that an african american male/female or a white male/female should have no issues gaining employment in that area.

-As far as the black and white part of the county, it's hard to really have an opinion either way. It would depend on which town you were referring to in WC. There are areas of WC that are still considered rural.

-When it comes to businesses, I think you have the good and the bad like you do everywhere else in the USA.

-I could not begin to tell you what rent would be in WC. Again, you have to pick a town and go from there. (I will post you a few links to get started)

-Yes, there are issues with illegal immigration.

Here is a link for you for employment. For other info, click on the links on this page. Hope this helps you!

The counties you have listed have some of the highest unemployment rates in S.C. The unemployment rate among african americans is even higher. Some people in Williamsburg county have to commute to Horry county (Myrtle Beach) for work. In general, people don't bother you if you don't bother them. We still have rednecks who fly their Confederate battle flags. I am a white male.
