Georgetown is a pretty diverse little town. It has a very quaint historic district that leads down to a lovely commercial strip along Front St & the river. It has a nice boardwalk that runs along the river & is lined with shops & restaurants. It attracts some tourists but is nowhere near the touristy feel of Myrtle Beach or Downtown Charleston.
To the south is Belle Isle & Maryville... both seem to be decent areas.
To the west has a more rural feel to it but I haven't scouted out the area too much so I cannot comment much more than that except there big developments seeking approval/zoning. I expect Georgetown County's population to nearly double in the next 5-10 years. Iguess that would be good for teachers.
The down side to Georgetown is the sulfer smell from the paper mill depending which way the wind is blowing. Also the steel mill is quite unattractive & takes away from the downtown area.
To the north is Pawleys Island/Litchfield Beach. I may be biased but this is the best area along the Grand Strand. The schools are very good, plenty of shopping & the beach is never too far away. I could go on & on but you may try a search of other threads, there is some good info out there.
