Unhappy Moving Near Salters, SC... NEED HELP!!

I have been offered a job in Salters as an Art Teacher. I will also be teaching in Greeleyville at an elementary school there. We went & visited Salters, Kingstree & neighboring towns, & didn't really find much to do there or... really anything at all. So If I have to teach at both of the schools, where do you suggest that we live? Can you tell me anything at all about Salters?? We thought that going down there would help us enjoy the area more, but I hate to say it, but I think it scared me! I was shocked to see that Wal-Mart was a 1/2 hour away & the nearest big city, Florence, was about an hour away! I'm from Ohio & everything that I could possibly ever need is within a 10 minute drive! So this is a culture shock for me BIG TIME! Any help at all on where we should live would be great. Any idea what the schools are like?? I have lots of questions! Please help! If I take the job, I have to be down there in less than a month!

I'm guessing you'll get a lot more feedback if you post this in the South Carolina forum.

I drive through Salters & Greelyville on the way to Columbia from time to time. Both pretty remote locations although I love the Victorian homes that can be found around town. Outside of the federal jail in Salters, there isn't much going on there!

About a half hour to Manning or Monks Corner you can find a Super Walmart, movies etc. You can get to the beach in about an hour in Pawleys Island.

There's really nothing in either place. They're somewhat remote locations and the epitome of small towns.
