Default zoning to allow RV on owned lot near Lake Marion

My husband and I are just begining to look into purchasing a lot near Lake Marion. the idea is to park the RV there and live in it over the winter months and still be able to travel and/or return to NH for the summer months. Not sure we're looking for an RV campground, just a lot in the county somewhere that would allow us to live in our RV, and have electric and sewer or septic system.
Any info would be appreciated

Default Check the Local Planning/Zoning Office

Don't know which side of the Lake you will be on.. but you want to check the local planning or zoning office in the County where you plan to park BEFORE you buy anything. Don't depend on a realtor or a property owner to tell you what can and cant happen on the property, find out for yourself. The worst thing you can do is to buy that property only to find out that you cant do on it what you want. If it is not zoned for that use and you have to rezone it, you will have to contend with the neighbors and possibly a public hearing.. which who knows how those things can turn out. Just food for thought.. Google the County that the property is in and find Planning/Zoning and discuss with them what is possible on the property....If you dont want the hassle, find an RV Park to park in.

I'm not for certain but I believe that is Colleton County.
There are many areas near Lake Marion such as Summerton, Santee, Eutawville and Elloree. Summerton or Santee would probably be your best bet when looking in to parking an RV.
You have better access to the lake and the interstate there.

Thanks for the info. We will be driving our RV down next spring and finding an RV park to explore the area from. I know we could probably get a seaonal spot and just leave our RV there for the season, then drive back and forth to NH, but we are thinking toward the future when the time comes when we will no longer want to drive back and forth, and will want to own a property. But in the meantime, would like a spot to call a "second home". I will get busy checking county zoning ordinances in the meantime! Proximaty to the interstate would be a definate plus!
