Unhappy snow and cold too much!!

My husband and I are looking to move to S.C. We now live 10 miles outside of Bowdoin College. Drive for milk, 2 miles. Someone sug. renting first to find locale for our tastes. Looking for min. 1600 sq. ft. country type living neigh. that take pride in their home and yard. Husband in wheelchair, but we love to garden. looking west of I95 about 20-30 miles. Also need to be at least 25-35 miles to major hospital and need town with variety of doctors. Need one level living. So many towns down there! Looking at Claredon County. Have spent time looking outside Charleston and Myrtle Beach. But too much traffic. Any help would be appreciated. Can not tolerate the cold and snow anymore. Also prices would help.

Camden, SC would be worth a look. It's a very beautiful area and in the Columbia metro area.

I know you said that you had looked in Myrtle Beach - but did you come south 20 miles? The south end of Murrells Inlet offers every physican practice you could need. Everything from heart to kidneys, phy therapy, etc. Grocery stores are plentiful, pharmacies abound. And a medium sized hospital - a sister to Georgetown Co. Mem. Hosp., found in Georgetown, 25 miles south. Major medical complications at this end are handled either Georgetown or Charleston. Transport is usually covered by your insurance. Traffic is certainly worse than 20 years ago, but not at the level of Myrtle Beach. Many residents of the south end of Murrells Inlet find doing all their shopping, such as going to the Walmart in Georgetown faster than going north. This would also include all business matters, any and all legal matters can be done south rather than north to the tourist traffic.
In addition to Murrells Inlet there are beautiful neighborhoods in the Georgetown city area. 3 miles outside the city limits you are in the country. Georgetown gets you closer to Charleston for any major medical help that your husband may need. Plus - No traffic, no noise. Georgetown just won an "All American City" award on the national level.
But, as I write this it is 41 degrees - so we do have our cold days. It is to drop to 29 tonight with a high of 62 tomorrow.
Good Luck and I wish you both the best on your decision.

Smile Great info on Dr., Hosp. etc.

Cannot thank you enough! Answered alot of questions we had. I'll take the cold over shoveling 8-12 inches almost every week through the winter. Loved the extra on parm., traffic etc. Very informative. Thanks again!

Default Greenwood

you might like Greenwood, I do. We have a good hospital here with many doctors. Larger hospital in Greenville about a 45 min. drive. There is any price home here you want. My daughter just bought a nice house with 5 acres for $125,000. The lake has houses from $150,000 and up. We are about 1 1/2 hours from Augusta Ga or Columbia SC, 2 hrs from Atlanta, 4 hrs Mrytle Beach. Its a nice place to live.
