Heading to S.C. next month!
My Husband and I are heading down next month to check out some different areas to possibly live. First we are heading to the Charleston are to look at Mount Pleasant, Monks Corner and Goose Creek. Then were off to the Columbia area to see Irmo, Newberry, and Ridgeway. Then we're off to Greenville area to also see Simpsonville , Taylors and Spartanburg areas.
I was wondering if there were any "must see" towns/areas that we should/could add to the list. I love small old historic quaint towns, and my husband likes the country, so either type of areas would be worth looking at. Decent schools would be a plus, but I wouldn't mind senidng the kids to a private school if we had too. My husband has a degree in finance and has been in the construction business for almost 20 years, so areas where he could be within a 45 minute drive within these fields of work would be great. Thank you for any suggestions!!

In the Greenville area, Pickens is a quaint town, IMHO. The area west and north of Greenville is mostly rural, and beautiful w/ the mountains.

You should go check out Camden and Lugoff while you're in the Columbia area. Camden is a historic, small town, and you could send your kids to really good private schools in Columbia or Sumter a half hour away.
While you're in Moncks Corner, definitely go over to Pinopolis. I have friends and aquiantences from that area, and I'm told that its a nice place to live. Comparing the type of places y'all want to live, and the places you're looking, I'd say you are on the right track.

If you like old Southern charm you would probably like Aiken. You can visit the chamber of commerce website http://www.aikenchamber.net
You will be 20 miles from Augusta, GA., where most of the jobs are.
Your housing dollars will go very far here.

You may also want to check out Bluffton, it is a charming town, very eclectic and historical. It's also only 20 min. from Savannah, GA.
If you need info. Please let me know, I can get whatever you need. Including Public and Private school information.

Charleston Area Living
First of all South Carolina is a wonderful place. I see that you are coming to the Charleston area. You were also looking particularly for small historic, quaint towns. There is a town about 23 miles west of Charleston called Summerville. Although it is growing it is still a small town with a cozy historic feel.
The School District in Summerville is Dorchest School District Two and is the best in the area if not the best in the state. It is highly looked upon to work and to attend for education.
If you need any more information about moving to the area please let me know. Also I work with Prudential Carolina RE and can represent you if needed. South Carolina is very serious about having representation. Please let me know if you have any other questions.
