Default Fed up with the sc county offices

I have been kicking the idea around about relocating to the state of sc, but my experiences so far have been terrible with trying to get property tax info out of geenville & spartanburg counties, the only county i had any luck with that knew what they were doing was oconee which was very helpfull.

the rest of the county departments may be ok, but boy they sure have a serious problem with there tax dept employees.

don't get me wrong, i'm not bashing sc by no means but from the people that live in these counties do you find this problem also.

it is really causing me to have second thoughts on relocating to that area.

so my alternative is to turn to you here on the board to help me with figuring property taxes, i'm sure i'll get much more here than the county has to offer.

now my understanding of it is, say a house is valued at 75,000.
take 75,000 x 4 % asset ratio = 3000, then 3000 x .200(ballpark millage rate) = 600.00 prop tax due.

personal property taxes (car)should be figured as so, say the car is valued at 8000 x 6% asset ratio = 480 x .204( estimate mill rate) = 98.00 tax due

these are just ballpark figures, so if anyone knows the actual ratios & mill rates please set me straight on this issue (since my estimates could be way off) in greenville, spartanburg, pickens counties.

thanks.

I see in your other example on another post that the formula does work, but why the landfill fee.

do you think your 285 mill rate seems high or about average for the northern counties.

now that leads me into the personal property tax, do you think the 6% ratio x .204 mill would be correct for personal car.

to give you an idea of my taxes, house is appraised at 96,624 which is not really right but can't fight city hall, assessed at 33% of that value, with a mill rate of 8.01 per hundred.

96624x33=31885/100=318x8.01=2,547.00 yearly taxes with no personal prop but still pretty high.

i've got a lot of questions so i may be a pain in the a** for a bit till i get all the little details of different things figured out so just bear with me.
