1- why don't you see basements in the south.
2- do most have all electric homes in the outlying areas, or some use propane, how many areas have natural gas available.
3- i read on here also that certain power companys do better in an ice storm with getting power restored, is that a big problem or something not to really worry much over.
4- those that have wells is the water decent
5- in the outlying areas i imagine trash pick up is not available so do you have to take your trash in somewere to get rid of it, burn it or what.
6- just what areas in the northern / northwestern counties are considered the better stay away from there places.
7- topsoil, is most of the land rock or is it fairly good for crops and such, how far down can you dig before you hit solid rock.
8- is there very much of a bluegrass music population around there.

basements-when i moved here, there were minimal homesites with them. now though, in the last few months, i've looked at numerous new homes with the basement option. mainly due to water level/run off, but with so many hilly slopes, rear basements on the back of the lot with a bit of dirt pushed down are getting more and more common. same question i asked 5 yrs. ago, finally being answered.
i've seen propane, gas and electric homes in our subdivision, and around it. gas still seems to spendy for myself, but i have relatives that absolutely love it.
power companies, don't worry about. Duke has the money, just needs to use it more wisely in maintaining, in my opinion. 1 to 2 ice storms that have an effect on our power comes around it seems every 3 years or so, some get it back the next day(as the temps usually rebound to 40+) and most that do lose it are only out for a few days, if that. the outlying areas may suffer a bit more, or it's just spotty.
wells; i don't have one here, but did in Georgia, and even with that hard red clay and possiblity of 'dry wells', the water was fine. i'm sure it's suitable here, but county water is everywhere. they are even running water up hwy 14 for miles, in greer, so the people around Glassy Mountain can get it(wonder how much their water bills with CPW go up lol)
trash runs everywhere. seems to me, we actually have TOO many trash service companies. 18 houses on my block, and 10 of them have different trash pickups throughout the week. landfill is also an option, for those who don't want to pay the $20 to $30 fee every 3 months.
areas? to stay away?: Gaffney area, downtown Spartanburg, Greenville, and main town areas around Anderson i suppose. still, not too terrible. 6 out of 10 at the worst, in those 'worst places'. 5 miles away, it could be paradise and quiet.
not sure how deep digging down, till you hit rock, but the land is extremely fertile. so many crops, and mini farms around, it's abundant.
bluegrass: i work sometimes with a guy who is in a bluegrass band, they play alot in Greenville and Easley, where he lives.

other than that, it's not too popular, but you'll like these guys at least.
