Your very welcome!

I won't pretend to be an expert on this issue...so the best suggestion I can give you is to contact the school directly and ask how this is handled.

My experience has been with the speech department in the past....

well they are doing it in Marlton NJ and in Massachusetts, NY and Vermont--i live in philadelphia and they do it here as well.

talking about social engineering by teachers and school adminstration where young childrens minds are being molded is not gay bashing, it is telling what is going on to our children. they social engineer in alot of ways and that has nothing to do with intolerance, it is intolerance that is being taught by the schools in the north about what and who the kids should like and not like, ie Bush bashing.

so, i was enjoying the thread too until what you said--intolerance goes both ways

I am not sure if you intended to gay bash and put down kids and parents from the north but you did. I would assume that as a parent she was probably referring to how classes are taught i.e. the teacher upfront giving lectures or walking around the room, possibly if they do worksheets as a group and grade each others or turn them into the teacher. I have twins as part of my four and I would like to know what the school does with them - are they in the same class or not, is it the parents choice etc.. I have a daughter who is just learning cursive and she is worried that she will go to the new school and others will be far ahead of her. Stuff like what grade do they teach multiplication and how well do they expect 1 st graders to read.

I can tell you in all my years in our PA school district I have never had myself or my kids taught anything but acceptance of everyone. You are free to believe in GOD or Not among other things. My kids have never been encouraged to be gay or marry gay they just know that some people are born gay and we should not judge them for how they or their parents live but give them our support and friendship, they learned this from me not from their school. Personal morals are the parents responsibility not any schools.

I am also looking for some advise cocerning with disabilities. I am sure someone will help us. You are right about the issue on gay or not gay. It is irrelivent. I think the person was confused or mis understood what we are asking. So if anyone has knowledge about FM schools and kids with learning disabilties give us a shout out. thanks Ice

carolinajack,
I know your comment was not ment for me but for others however the conversation was not dealing with discrimination or racial issues. i would like to know if you lived in S.C. and dealt with any type of sexual or religious discrimination. this is very important to me due to the fact i attept to raise my children to accept people as they are. as for the south since i live in FL they also discriminate at one point they did not want to say the pledge of allegance at school. The students were forced to stand even if it was not accepted in their culture which is fine with me they dont need to stand however, you do not illiminate the pledge because it states god in it...which the state of FL wanted to do however thank GOD it did not pass! but really this blog is concerning about our childrens best educational influences, not political issues. Thank you! Ice

icelady:

I am not sure you posted it to me as I was addressing the initial post on page one not about politics or discrimination, i dont know where you got that from. If you look at the person post, Salatel, i think. You will see that they were asking about changing schools in the middle of the school year and if the school classes were taught the same in the south as they were in the north.

I dont know where you got discrimination from or where someone got the idea of gay bashing. I wasnt gay bashing, I was talking about the way one teaches in class rooms in different areas of the country. Up there they have a certain agenda in teaching and down here we have another.

So I am not sure what or who you were addressing with your statement as I dont know anything about the politics or the discrimination issue--except being african american and a school teacher and seeing what goes on in the school systems in both areas of the country.

thanks

Ok Iam sorry. I did look at the post from Salati. I thought you were addressing that issue. I am sorry. However you are a teacher and I am wondering did you teach in sc ? If so how was it? You also do have valid points concerning issues.

no my mother taught 15 years in the Richland county school district in columbia sc; and she works part time in mt pleasant Charleston SC public schools and all my aunts and uncles are SC public school teachers and principals. I went up to 5th grade in public school in SC and it was a great education but that was in the 70s.

Ive taught school in Central America, opened a private school in NY, taught at the University level.

salatheel will become famous soon enoughsalatheel will become famous soon enough
Hi everyone. I should have explained what I meant about teaching differently. I am hoping that the method of teaching will be different than what is used now in our school system up here in Milford,CT. The way they teach here seems to be so alien to the way my wife and I were taught in school. So much so that we just can't seem to relate to what they are trying to do. They don't seem to teach in absolutes as much as try to get the kids to open their minds to learning in different ways? I am definitely more liberal than conservative and I don't agree with what the present administration is doing at all. But in some ways I agree with Carolina Jack in that I question the entire teaching method up here. I just was wondering if this is a national thing or a local thing.
