Looking to move
I currently live in Erie, PA, but am looking to move - just not sure where yet. I run an online marketing company from my house, so work is not really an issue - I can do my job from anywhere. I am looking for a few things though. I have a one year old son, so the school system is a big issue. I am also looking for somewhere close to the city, but not right in the city. I will be looking to eventually buy a home, but renting is fine for the time being if it is easier. I have a dog, so that may be something to take into consideration as well. Since I have lived in a winter state for my entire life, I am looking to live somewhere warmer all year round - I have had enough of the snow. If anyone has any suggestions as to where a good place to raise my son would be, please let me know.

You should consider Charleston SC. I live in Mount Pleasant and it is a great place to raise a family.

If you also are interested in being close to the beach, I would look into towns surrounding Charleston. When I was moving, I typed in Charlestown, Myrtle Beach etc...and looked at what towns were around. Then I did searches about those towns. I also suggest taking a trip (if you can) to visit those a towns a couple times before moving. Good luck.

If school is your issue be advised that SC ranks 50 out of 50. We used to say, "Thank god for Alabama and Mississippi or we'd be on the bottom."
Well, we (they) can't say that anymore!

Fort Mill/Tega Cay to me is your best bet. Why? Hop skip and jump to Charlotte, and 2? TOP school system in the entire state of SC.
If it was me with a small child, there would be no other choice.
Excellent community. Clean, newish, with little crime.

How much can you spend for a mortgage or rent?

Most of South Carolina might be like that but Greenville County has some of the best schools in the state according to Newsweek. For example, Eastside High School where I graduated from was ranked the 2nd best school in the state and #342 in the nation out of 27,000 ranked by Newsweek Magazine. Also, Greenville County has more certified teachers than some states.

I'd heard from a friend who lives there that Greenville schools are some of the best in SC.

Greenville does have some good schools but it has some bad ones too so be careful.
