1 year.
If its for adultery you can get it in 3 months.
Otherwise, you must be separated for 1 year before it can be made completely official.

Yup. Forgot to add that. Must file for legal separation as well, then show different addresses for each person.

What do you mean by "file". Is it really necessary to have a lawyer? Can't a couple make their own separation agreement and sign in front of a notary, then have it recorded at the clerk's office.
With different addresses of course.

You have to be legally seperated for one year to be granted a normal divorce in SC. I think that there are rules that apply when a spouse is physically abusive. The best thing to do would be to consult an Attorney.
As far as adultery goes, you have to prove it. I have a friend that got a divorce on these grounds and she had to hire a private detective and the husband and the mistress had to be in a situation to where adultery could be proven. Phone calls and meetings can not prove adultery in the court of law. You have to get pictures of both of them in a compromising situation such as being alone together in a hotel room with the lights off overnight. I think she also had pictures of them kissing while getting out of the vehicle.
The only thing that adultery did was get her more of a settlement. It really didn't do anything otherwise.
