Funny, when I was much younger I had a cousin [yes, I am admitting this] who got married in SC because you could do it at age 13 with parental consent [and, believe it or not she was NOT pregnant] - abd this was legal.

If you read the rest of that webpage, it says that the age of consent as it reads in the SC constitution. The criminal codes state that the age of consent is actually 16... so I guess there is a loophole that they are trying to close. In the state police academy they teach of the 16 year old age of consent.

that made me laugh......unfortunately this age thing...14? I never knew that. However, I have a grown son so I guess I wouldn't pay attention to that.

14 is still a kid...14 normally does not have the common sense about ramifications down the road, to make any life altering decision.

I'm wondering...just wondering if this age of consent being 14 has anything to do with the ridiculous amount of non-graduating high schoolers? A thing I am indeed ashamed of in this state.

As far as my experience goes, the law says 14, but the daughter is usually protected by Daddy's shotgun until at least 20.

In my case, it was Daddy's shotgun and my own left hook...

So, its simple. Dads ( and maybe Moms too) make that shotgun visable to your baby girl's date when she brings him home.

" c'mon in Boy, sit on down and tell me bout yo'self.
So you like my daughter do you now, yeah we think she's somethin else.
She's her daddy's girl, her mama's world, she deserves respect, thats what she'll get, now aint it son?
Ya'll go out and have some fun.
I'll see ya when ya get back, probably be up all night..still cleanin' this gun..."

OR

Tell them "If a boy tries to kiss/touch/anything else you before ___age, punch/kick him"

It's funny you say that because when I was dating, many yrs ago, my dad had his gun cabinet located where you could see it when he was sitting in his recliner. So when a guy would pick me up and he would talk with my dad you saw the gun cabinet over his shoulder. lol

My dad ( much like the verse I wrote up there) always managed to be cleaning his shotgun whenever I brought dates around. He's a big guy, and he'd always call my dates "boy" until when/if he decided he liked them.
He scared the daylights out of at least 3...and if he didnt, my brother saw to it.
I still remember him saying as we left " Boy, you'd best have her back here by 10:00 sharp, you hear?"

The answer was always "Yessir".
