im living in the southern maryland area right now. but i moved up here from little river, sc when i was 8 , anyway my friend says hes from sc to but everyone up here in smd tries to talk in a fake accent and claims to be from the south, so how would i spot a fake sc accent from a real one? i would just like to catch him on a lie.

SC has at least 4 indigenous accents that I can recall off top of my head; probably 1-2 I'm forgetting.

Some, like the Charleston, are almost extinct.

I can't think of anyone alive today who has one.
Not Riley, Ravenel, John Graham Altman- none of 'em.

If you ever want to hear one, look for a very rare record (LP) by a guy named Dick Reeves called "Gullah, A Breath Of The Carolina Lowcountry."

That's what a traditional Charleston accent sounded like.

I've seen videos of the Gullah people speaking. It was interesting.

Ask him to pronounce the town of Lancaster, does he say Lan-caster, or Lankister ? Green-ville or Green'vl ?

Gullah is a whole different deal, from the extreme coastal region.

I know a few that still have it including my dad. They are all older men over 60 yrs old.

What are the accents called?
The only Carolina accent i have heard is the one Senator John Edwards..
