Hello South Carolina,
I am new to this forum and so glad to have found it. I would like any information you can tell me about the upper-western region of South Carolina. I've written to several cities and gathered some information, but it is always good to hear what the "people" think about communities. I am mainly interested in small town living--friendly city, and good medical fcilities.
We are a retired couple and probably make SC our home for four months out of the year. We are Wisconsin "natives" and would like a milder climate during our Wisconsin winters.
Cities I would like to learn about are, Seneca, Westminster, Anderson, and Clemson or any other you could suggest around those areas.
My husband is a fisherman, I too, at times. My real love for a hobby is crafting. Any area where my husband could fish would be great.
Any real estate advice would be helpful also. At this time I am thinking of a condo, as we would keep our home in Wisconsin also.
I would sure appreciate hearing from anyone with advice. Thanks so much for your help.

Smile Some helpful tips!

My wife and I have been exploring the SC area, specifically from Greenville,SC south into Anderson ( Clemson ) areas!. Everyone, including my cardiologist In NJ speaks highly about the medical services available, especially in the Greenvile Area. There are numerous hospital services and also a teaching college which is always a good sign. My wife & I visited several of the hospitals ( the bigger ones ) and were very impressed about how clean, quiet, and friendly the staff we encountered. I would rate what we've found out to be very good. The area around Clemson is actually built near Lake Keowee , Lake Hatwell etc. We actually spent a week in an RV camp on Lake Hartwell this past summer. Fishing & boating galore. Clemson is a very nice small college town. We love it. I'm not exactly sure of the housing. We are looking further northeast toward Greenville which is about 20-25 minutes from Clemson. Housing seems to be plentiful. Compared to where we are in NJ the housing costs are much, much lower. It appears we will be able to build a stick built home in the range of $140-150 and be extremely comfortable. Downtown Greenville is beautiful. It is worth a visit if you are in the area. What is also impressive is that the roads are so easy to drive compared to the challenges up north. We've visited that area in June, July and November and the weather was what we expected. November 8-10th this past the temps were in the high 60's. June was in the 80's. From what we've been told there is usually one cooler month ( Jan ) I believe. Snow if very rare. Occasional ice storms seems to be their biggest problem.

Best of Luck!
Dan
