Talking in need of a job in a few years

I am currently a Junior in college but i am very interested in moving to the Charleston area after graduation. I will have a bachelor degree in family child studies with a concentration in p-3. Any idea how hard it is to get a teaching job there? thanks for any help!

The Charleston area probably has the strongest and most-diversified economy of any metro in South Carolina (e.g., tourism, port, military, manufacturing, retirees, professional services, etc.). It shouldn't be terribly difficult finding a job. My main concern would be the cost of housing, which being a relatively upscale coastal area, can be difficult for a B.A. graduate in family child studies such as yourself. You may have to live further out that you would normally desire (perhaps in a suburban area in Dorchester or Berkeley County), and may have some commuting distance. However, your work may be in one of those further-out areas anyways, which may not be so bad in terms of commute (although I don't know to what extent you want to be in or near the City of Charleston).

With the budget cuts and firing of teachers here in S.C i would rethink your choice. Our system is almost out of money and teachers are paying the price..
