I live in SC on the Western Coast in McCormick County. I read about the fine for a discarded cigarette and wondered if you realize how much of South Caroilina is Forest Land. We had a rather dry Fall last year and we aren't wanting the kinds of fires that are burning in Texas and Oklahoma, but your are right that the police are probably tougher on out of State license plates than they are on residents.

South Carolina is wonderful. South of I-20 the land is fairly flat but north of I-20 you get into some gently rolling hills. South of I-20 the black flys can get downright pesky in summertime. I prefer living North of there on the Lake where we have lots of trees and breeze. We live about 20 miles North of Augusta, Ga. and during the hot summer days it is usually several degrees cooler out here. When I take a trip into Augusta for shopping I always breather a deep breath as I cross back over the Savannah River and head up the hill toward home. I think to myself this is God's country and I'm glad to be headed home.

I'm subscribing to Carolina Living and while it's a great magazine, I'm not sure I want to live in a planned community. I want some space between me and the nearest neighbor and will probably look at something a bit more rural.

I've never been to SC and plan to make a trip in the next few years. I look forward to hearing from you!

If you are considering Aiken I suggest you go there and buy your land as soon as possible. We bought last summer and our property has already appreciated at least $2000 an acre more than we paid for it. The town is lovely and totally horse & animal oriented.

If you buy and then decide to go somewhere else in a few years you will have a great investment. Even if you don't choose Aiken - buy land now!!
