Default New Job In Hampton, Sc -- How's The Area Around It???

We are from Michigan and I have a potential job in Hampton South Carolina. I understand this is a VERY rural area! I'm troubled about what I'm finding out on the internet about the outlying areas around Hampton. i.e. Walterboro, Yemassee,... the crime, poor schools, gang, etc.. Anyone have some info about Hampton and the outlying areas - good or bad??!!

Well, I can tell you one thing, you'll probably be the only hockey fan in Hampton.
In all seriousness, I'm not saying that it's a bad area. But it is very rural. Think: Upper Peninsula, but really really hot, really flat, and really poor. And with totally different people.

Unfortunately, Hampton is in an economically depressed area. That's about all I can tell you, as I am not from the area.

having lived there a few years ago, l loved it. One thing for sure, there were more Penn State students than there were people in the county! :-)

I have found that you will either love it, or wish you never came. I loved it, can't wait to get back there! You will love the fact that you can by your beer in the grocery store (except sundays)! :-)

as long as you are open to the neighbors and location, you will be fine. IT IS NOT LIKE THE NORTH!!! It is a very diverse area, and once people get to know you, you treat them with respect, go to local churches, you will do well. If you are Catholic, Jewish, or Mormon, you will have to travel a bit to go to church, but PLEASE ask your neighbors where they go, you will never regret it.

If you wish, please e-mail me at wlr107@teacher.com, and we can go into specifics if you wish.

The Carolina low country...you either love it (like I do), or you wish you never came...but I just love it! Lots to do, you just have to plan a bit, unlike being in a large city, but worth it to be sure.

Will
