I can't describe how frustrating it is to see, literally, the whole rest of the country (even new orleans) getting snow and we are supposed to be 70 on thurs and friday.

i have seen snow my whole life and when we move down there i won't miss it a bit.

snow can be great, for those who enjoy the outdoor sports ( skiing, snow-mobiling, etc ); and at times can make for some beautiful scenery.
But for some of us, it's like alcohol--ok only in moderation. Problem with mother nature, one has no control on the amount to be dumped. We had 9" last week, 4"+ last night, another 8-12" coming tomorrow night, and could have anoter 6"+ over the weekend. That puts us ( an area that averages 45" per year, with no lake effect snow ) on pace to get more then we did last year--the record 100+". So while every kid ( or the kid in all of us ) could have a blast tubing down a big hill; it's dealing with the abundance of snow, the hazardous driving conditions, and the sub zero temps ( minus 4 this am while i was shoveling ) that follow snow fronts that make it difficult to enjoy anymore.
Hence one of the main reasons we will be moving to SC in Feb ( and we are life long WI folks ). It just gets to be too much to deal with.
But I can see the attraction snow can have for those who havent experienced it. Maybe "JFR" or myself can toss some in the moving truck and bring on down!
Actually, while at the Mall of America recently, there was a kiosk selling packets of instant snow ( i know, selling instant snow in Minneapolis! ). Buy it by the case, add water, and you'll have your white Christmas....

well put Ranger17, my cousin who has lived in SC all her life is similar to the poster from Greenville, in saying she would love to have snow. As you said, if you could control it to be a light snow that just dusted the ground, it's fine, but it rarely occurs that way (except in the movies!). It was great growing up, going out and playing in it, getting days off of school. But once you hit 18, and have to drive in it, shovel your driveway, get your clothes wet & dirty, it's no fun. I've been in 2 accidents in my life - and both were b/c of bad snowy roads. Going back to Ohio for a few days at Christmas, I'm already dreading the possibility of driving in the bad weather that likely will occur. I'll take 75 degree days any day of the year over snow.

I can take cold and snow over miserable social conditions 10 times out of 10.
I started to say that's a minority view, but that remains to be seen.

Well, I can take my furnace not running for the last week or more over your miserable social conditions (?).

Wonder how often your ACs run in July?
Our place doesn't have/need one.
My woodstove helps keep my furnace usage to a minimum, although when it's -15F as it was this AM, it's always wise to have the basement warm for the pipes.
Plus, splitting wood cuts out the need for a health club membership......
The lousy social conditions of SC are a matter of record, fyi.

If you don't like it down here, just say so. Check the topic title; start one on the summers, I don't care. I'm not denyin' any of the A/C, you just huddle up next to your stove, I'm wearing flipflops. OUR PLACE doesn't have / need one. The conditions are clear, 72 on this mid December evening.

Hey,
I love humid tropical climates.
Rio and Nassau are my faves. But I also like Cold-Temporate, even Boreal, climes.
Point is, if you maximize for the climate, there are so many better places than SC, in my opinion (and, yes, this is all about collective opinions as expressed by the posters here).
Remember, compost piles are also warm in winter.
