Thanks, now I feel I want to research Columbia as well. I know I could fly directly from Ft. Lauderdale for very little using Spirit Airlines...

You won't fly anywhere cheap out of Greenville/Spartanburg.

Actually, Greenville does not experience an ice storm or two every year. There have been cycles where this has happened, but it is not an annual event. Additionally, regarding the summer temperature, while it gets slightly hotter in Columbia by degrees, the heat index is typically much higher there due to a higher relative humidity level. Taking that into consideration, Greenville actually feels much less hot overall in the summer than the temperature indicates. I personally find the air to be dreadfully stagnant in the Midlands during the summer - not that we don't endure our share of similarly hot days in the Upstate, but the Midlands summers feel much hotter to me.

Going to be roughly 60-65 during the day, 35-40 at night the next 3 days in Columbia, then cool down on New Years to a high of 50 low of 30.

Since I already lived in Arkansas and Delaware I don't mind the cold so much, it's having to drive in icy roads and too many gray days (and even that I could put up with, after all, it rains more than I like here...) what I do mind. Come think of it, because of my mold allergy a very humid summer like in Columbia could be pretty bad for me...
