Which of the developers are the shady ones? Names some names. Inquiring minds want to know.
Where do you get the demographics of the town? I'd like to see those figures.
And, you never responded to where you got the "fact" that the "general demographic is NJ, NY, and PA". I'd like to see your data on that.
Incidentally, in the past 2 years, there have been 10 new people in my office who moved here from another state. Not a single one of them is from NJ, NY, or PA. That's my anecdotal evidence.

To answer your questions. First Crosland park at one time was a very decent middle income neighborhood to live in but when the houses in and around the downtown area were taken the influx of those folks moving into the community caused a very large white flight out of the area. And secondly if you didn't know that Weldon Wyatt is one of the biggest crooks in Aiken the you don't get out much. As of 2007 3 percent of the total population if the town(29,218) was "out of towners" I never presented anything as fact relating to N.J N.Y or P.A but if you have dealt with as many tansplants as i have you will realize a major portion of them are from there and i have dealt with a very large amount of them in my time. And 10 co workers isn't a very impressive number out of the total number of transplants. If you want demographic numbers www.census.gov you want to see the results of Weldons scams www.aikenstandard.com check out how he screwed the Houndslake residents.

I must not get out much, as it doesn't seem to me that anyone who can buy in Houndslake is likely to be moving from Crosland Park to there. How did people buying in downtown cause a 'white flight' from Crosland Park?
"general demographic is NJ, NY, and PA" is a quote from your own post, so yes, you did present that as a fact. What kind of job do you have that you are so constantly having to deal with these nasty transplants?
"3 percent of the total population if the town(29,218) was "out of towners" "- now there is a REAL BIG percentage! Actually, 10 new employees on a staff of 40 is a bigger percentage.
It looks like what is actually happening is that local (SC/GA) people are shifting back and forth at far greater numbers than from other states. Frankie, thanks for the link!
Where Aiken residents came from Counties People
Richmond, GA 4,762
Edgefield, SC 2,094
Columbia, GA 1,730
Lexington, SC 1,678
Barnwell, SC 919
and about 20 more SC/GA places before we reach
Queens, NY 164
Where Aiken residents moved to
Richmond, GA 4,178
Edgefield, SC 1,995
Columbia, GA 1,815
Lexington, SC 1,804
Richland, SC 904
I know that it can be very upsetting when things change, and it is easy to blame those evil people from up north - but sometimes things just change. These things happen everywhere - People move for jobs or retirement or just cuz they can. Employers open, expand, layoff, and close. Some people are ethical and some are not. The economy grows, gets stagnant, declines, and grows again (well, let's hope it will!).

Again i said Weldon Wyatt is a crook and look at what he did to the residents of Houndslake. Are you reading or just replying? Also the white flight out of Crosland park occured when the transplants started buying up all the homes surrounding the downtown area when the people started moving to the Northside whites who were able, began to move away. The purpose of this thread was to see if a mass influx of"diffent" people dilute the local culture and in the case of Aiken i would say yes. I have been here for over 40 years and i see it more and more, My grandfather helped to build a good many northern "cottages" back in the early 1900's so i have also heard his stories throughout the years. If you would like to see some of "paps" handywork visit "Batiska" I have a deep personal knowledge of Aiken history because my family helped create it. And if several thousand of us " good ole boy's " were to move to Fishkill N.Y or Puxatawny PA i think the results woud be the same.

Very good research .. There is nothing like old 2000-2005 I.RS data interpretation from the Charlotte Observer based on change of address forms.

As a southerner and a native of SC, I do see many changes in our culture and traditions due to the influx of transplants. But, that's going to happen anywhere that there is population growth. I also have to accept responsibility for passing down those traditions to my children. If I want them to know and identify, I have to take it upon myself to teach them and not depend on outsiders to do so.
The thing that used to get under my skin so much would be the "this is how we do it back home" attitude from transplants. But that back home attitude can also be helpful. There are many areas that SC are behind in and if someone can bring something positive to the table regarding these issues, I want to hear it. In the process of doing so, I just want others to be respectful.
Plus, I think people just want to live here and enjoy all that we have enjoyed all our lives such as the beach, warm weather, slow pace of life, etc. I can't fault them for that no matter where they come from.

did you think that maybe it's not just north to south , it's also east to west about the (this is the way we do it back home) i know people from the south that say the samething about the south but you can't take offence to everything that someone says personal. we are moving down from up north and we hope people just don't jump and think we'er all bad just because we are from up north. we are nice people and don't want people hating us before they even know us. we do want the last part of what you said. we can't wait to get down there so we can do more motorcycle more often. we do not want to change anything, we just want to enjoy life in a warmer climate.

Then thats not grits. Thats just a whole 'lotta nasty. She probably wasnt eating them right anyway.
You put butter, salt cheese,or any combination of those 3 in grits for breakfast. Sugar doesnt belong ANYWHERE near them.
Anyhoo, I do hate it when Yankees move down here and try to change things into what they left. or when they act as if Im stupid simply because I carry a Southern drawl. If enough of them move here, then yes it dilutes the culture. It dilutes the speech patterns in future generations, and it effects the politics as well, since the South is mostly Red, and a great deal of Northern states are blue.

That's the dang truth! When I saw sugar and grits together like that, I just about lost my Bojangle's sausage biscuit. That's just plain, nasty.
Now I have a bad taste in my mouth.
