What is a Mediterranean style airport? Never heard of that before. Sounds fancy and I can't see Cola's airport being upscale. LOL
Friend, it's not upscale, upscale can be revolting, it's a small and pretty airport like a young virgin, but the architectural style reminds me of the Mediterranean. It is very pleasant to arrive and leave at this airport: Columbia Metropolitan Airport. I don't feel the same using Atlanta ATL and even Charlotte CLT Intl. airports. Go check it out and don't forget to walk around in the car parking. It's beautiful.

NC has a different vibe (energy). I lived there for 8 years. When I used to cross the checkerboard into the SC, it felt like going to Mexico (South of the Border), yes. South Carolina is savings and warmer weather. Don't forget to bring your shrimp and sausage and the boiled peanuts.

With both SC and NC being the home of both Strom Thurmond and Jesse Helms, that's all most needed to know to avoid coming here. That's what gave me the feeling that there must have been many people who - if they could bring themselves to not only visit but move down here - "North" would be as far as they could bring themselves to go.

While I know this theory is silly, there's sometimes some truth in jest. I'm not serious about it, but the feeling is still with me. I found people's ignorance about the Carolinas interesting, but it got old.

I didn't go out of my way to let people know I was from here, and I certainly didn't sit around talking about it. I just picked up my theory along the way over the time I was there. It's a fun theory. Let me have it.
When you live down Saewf Carolynuh, you just bury your face in the sand and enjoy the views and don't share the xpyrienz with anyone.

I was amazed by how many places in SC you can buy boiled peanuts. Gas stations, the flea market, and guys with stands on the side of the road - there's a place in Florence where a Shell once was, all that's left are the pumps, and the same guy was set up in that parking lot last year and this year with a little trailer selling them - they must be making money.

I don't think he meant "progressive" in the ideological sense, but in the everyday sense with respect to education, the economy, infrastructure, etc. That much really can't be argued.

I don't think Charlotte has better infrastructure than most places in SC. Their roads and interstates are actually pretty bad.

I don't think NC's schools are better either in that if you transfered our poor performing students to their good schools they would still be poor performing students.

Charlotte =/= all of NC. I-77 is pretty smooth sailing from SC into NC, but there's a noticeable difference making that same drive via I-85. As a matter of fact, I-85 is much better through most of NC (particularly from Charlotte to Durham) than SC.

NC has better performing schools, i.e. more better performing students, on average. Higher ed is also of better quality.
