Default taxes in SC?

I am researching moving to the Columbia area and am wondering "what taxes are there in SC?" I currently live in MD and have been to and stayed in Columbia 2 years in a row for a week at a time each visit. I know there is (correct me if I am wrong please) ,State and local taxes, sales tax, property tax and I know there are others I dont know of other than the usual income tax. I dont know the % of these. Here we pay 6.5% almost across the board i think.

One more thing, as far as vehicles go , what are the taxes on that is it a one time thing upon moving or is it yearly, bi-yearly? Is there inspections on the vehicles and emissions?

Any help would be appreciated.

The income tax marginal rate maxes out at 7%. Car tax is paid once a year. There are no car inspections in SC.

I think your list of taxes is accurate, though I'm not aware of a locality with an income tax. Sales tax is 5% for a few more months. It will be 6% beginning in July, I think. Counties may add a percentage point or two to the sales tax for local projects.

SC Dept of Revenue uses a modified prioritary system. I'm not sure of the basis. An 05 Lincoln Town Car is appraised @ $21143, assessed @ $2220, taxed in Lancaster County @ $565.
