Sorry you had a terrible experience,I love maurices but have only been to the one in Lexington and their service has been great EVERY time. Tried it about a year and a half ago.The baby poo (hash and rice) rocks and is my favorite,I've been addicted from day one.Was saying to my husband when we move that is one thing I will definately miss

yes, maurice's hash & rice is top-notch. I live in NC now, and I really miss it. I like maurice's BBQ, but there are better choices around. you can buy his sauce which is best on chicken and pork tenderloin, IMO.
For $4.50, what kind of service do you expect? they give you the food, then you sit and eat it. i stopped by a few weeks ago, and it seemed like your run-of-the-mill fast food place, just like i remember. and like you said, you didn't even eat the food because it looked like 'baby poo'. and the 'heads up' you requested on his political views are the 10 huge confederate flags he has flying on top of his restaurants, the display stands in front of the cashier, and pretty much everything in and about the entire place.

I live in Columbia, was raised in Chicago a long time ago. I prefer my own BBQ to Maurice's. I also got much better at Carson's and other such places in Chicago. Personally, I prefer Kansas City style BBQ. I don't like the sauces they concoct in the Carolinas. It's just regional variances of the same food. Everyone has specific preferences. Texas style chili isn't my favorite either, and to some that might seem sacrilegious.

Give South Carolina BBQ another chance! There are lots of places to get it other than Maurices. Shealy's is good, and I especially like Big T's in Columbia.

Maurice BBQ
Maurice's BBQ restaurants are great for inexpensive food served quickly. Much like Bill Miller's BBQ of Texas, the food may be found, upon arrival, dried out from sitting around under a heat lamp for too long. I do like Maurice's mustard sauce. Infact, I have a stash of it at home here in California. Baby **** or not, it is excellent when cooked with chicken and grilled onions.

Can't testify as to the quality of Maurice's BBQ since I would not eat there or buy his products due to his racist/political views. But I will say SC BBQ is the pits, especially that "rice and hash." NC BBQ, on th other hand, is a different story.
