Default affordable beach vacation in SC- where to go and stay?

Hello everybody,

My in-laws from Germany are coming over this summer and are wanting to go on a beach vacation. I have been researching but cant seem to find the perfect spot. Ive looked into Charleston and found packages (hotel, rental car &flights from st.louis,mo) for 450-600 dollars per person which sounds suspiciously low to me. Is Charleston fairly close to any nice ,not too crowded beaches? What other towns and/or hotels can you recommend that are close to the beach and not too pricey? ( Please give me the name of the closest airport) We are looking to relax rather than being surrounded by a million tourists...
Thank you so much!

What time of year are you planning this vacation. If it's summertime you are going to pay peak rates anywhere near the beach.

Look at the rates grids online for different hotels/resorts and you will soon figure out when you can cut some costs by missing the height of summer at the beach.

Charleston is lovely and on the water(I am assuming you know that!). I really like Isle of Palms which is close to downtown. Food is great, lots of historical fun things to visit. 10days will give you lots of time to sightsee & relax. June is a nice time to go before the true summer heat sets in. Also check into maybe renting a house just a few blocks off the beach.
