Default Thinking of South Carolina- Visiting soon and looking for a nice area

With historic homes on larger lots (ex at least .35 of an acre and we love Victorians or craftsman types and brick rambler style homes. We are a young couple but seeking an older neighborhood. Safety is very important, such as no car & home breakins, murders, rapes etc. We are also both dog groomers and worry that dog grooming prices arn't going to be high enough to support us both. We are looking in the 60k-200k price range, 3 bedrooms and 1 bath min.

If you are looking for a coastal historic district try Georgetown. It is going to be one of the places where folks will say, "gee, I should have bought there" or "If I had known...." It has a really nice historic section but it does have a seedy side of town, too. I think that will change in the next few years.

Try Aiken.........tons of historic homes, beautiful streets, and a very active downtown community. Aiken is known to be a animal friendly town. It is not uncommon to have business owners with their dogs in their shop. We also have a very active horse community. Actually, that is a mild under statement, Aiken pretty much revolves around their horses. Also check out Hitchcock woods. It is amazing! 2100 acres of forest with trails for jogging and riding your horse.
