We are thinking about relocating to Wyboo. Any input would be appreciated. What is the area surrounding Wyboo like?

Not particularly familiar with Wyboo but Manning is a really nice, quaint little town. Close enough to I-95 that you can get on the road quickly, too.

Besides the houses all up and down the lake, the area is rural and agricultural. Lots of swampland, a few golf courses, and Manning is up the road a bit. Wyboo Plantation is named after Wyboo Swamp, which is the northern tip of Lake Marion. Because of its proximity to Sumter and Manning, it is the most developed and crowded area of the lake.

We are visiting Wyboo Plantation next week and can report back in a couple of weeks upon our return. Have you learned anything more since your last inquiry?

highland, it's a good area. Besides gas stations, the closest stores are in Manning, so the general area is pretty rural. What do you want to know about?

Like most of that area, it's pretty seasonal.

Ok, really seasonal.

Lovely, though. Safe. There's property crime, but that mostly deals with people looting empty vacation homes during the off season. I highly doubt they'd go near places that are clearly inhabited, and Wyboo Plantation contains the more off-season-inhabited homes in the area.

I'm assuming you are retirees?

My Aunt and Uncle moved to Wyboo a few years ago from southen New York State. Uncle has always been a big golfer, so now he lives right on one of the greens of the golf course and works as a ranger. He loves it. Aunt works at a bank.

My other aunt and my grandmother followed them down last year. Not sure how they are adjusting - aunt is from Syracuse, grandma is from southern New Jersey.

They are all from semi-rural environments, so I believe it suits them.

When I have visited, I have enjoyed it, but being 34 and from a more urban setting, I found it pretty "quiet". I basically just play golf and hang out with the family when I am there. Pretty setting, though.

Question info on Wyboo Plantation

For the people who said they were visiting Wyboo Plantation sometime in July, August, were you able to form an opinion of it, positive or negative? Please let me hear from you again. Thanks:

Sorry I took so long to respond. Visited Wyboo in August, 07. It is a gated community with access to Lake Marion and two golf courses. The homes are beautiful. The golf course adjacent to the sub is ok. Unless you purchase a home/lot which is lakefront, the non-lakefront homes have available marinas with a pulley/lock-type system to get your boat over to the next body of water, and eventually into Lake Marion. The golf course across the street - Wyboo golf course is much nicer, wooded, with few homes. The weather was STEAMY hot, 95 degrees. Wyboo plantation is 8 miles south of Manning, for minimal shopping and restaurants. Manning is a small town, an exit off 95. Wyboo is rather isolated, as there is no road south of the area that crosses the Lake.
