Ready For A Change!!
My wife and I bought property in Forestbrook(about 5 miles inland of Myrtle Beach). We are looking at moving. I can't wait! She's an account AND a bartender. I'm in the maintenance field and also a machinist and construction, basically a little of everything.
We are getting ready to settle down and have a family. We both have ridiculous allergies here in Northwestern Arkansas. Mine is due to ragweed during the dry summer months.(when I mean dry, its DRY. Nothing is green, just brown and well....dry!) Her allergies are during the winter usually. Anyways, we both feel almost 100% better on our coastal vacations. The air seems fresher out there. Here in Arkansas the air is stagnate and thick. I know it gets humid there, but it feels totally different to us.
We love the area around Surfside and Murells Inlet. The Intracoastal, the beach, etc. Seems like alot of things to do, especially compared to here. It seems like we would have a better family life there. Unless you've lived in Arkansas, you might not understand. Also... she is originally from Central California, and I'm from Upstate New York. So that makes things different for us here too.
We are just trying to meet a few people through this site so maybe we'll know somebody after we get out there. She is more worried about making friends than I am. I told her (and she knows this) that she will probably make friends faster than me. She's a people person, she doesn't like change though.
ANYONE WITH ANY COMMENTS ABOUT THEIR EXPERIENCES MOVING, ALLERGIES,( HEADACHES, BODY ACHES ) GOOD THINGS, BAD THINGS, REGRETS, NO REGRETS. WELL.... YOU'VE GOT THE IDEA. PLEASE WRITE US!!
Thanks and hope things work well for everyone!!
Rob

Moved from Long Island to a nice family oriented community Pawleys Island and the people have been great. The neighbors were very friendly and a few of them actually had an oyster roast welcoming us to the community. Most of the people are transplants too, so they know how it is moving away from friends & family. I'm sure you will make friends quickly and you will love the weather. There were less than 10 days this winter that did not go above 40 degrees!
I can't compare to Arkansas, never been there, but to me nothing beats living by the ocean. You should do OK with the construction industry here & your wife seems talented too! Bartender & accountant? ... does she have a sister? Just kidding!

Allergies
Today's Sun News had an article on allergies in Myrtle Beach:
Allergy season blows into MB area... Spring's increased pollen count results in yellow cars as sufferers see their doctorsBy Lisa Fleisher, The Sun News
Within seconds, the bumps began swelling on the inside of Damian Jones' forearms.

I just moved to the same area (outside Myrtle Beach) from NJ and love it here. As far as the allergies, I haven't had a problem before but I have been waking up with headaches I think due to the high pollen count. I didn't read the above article but I know it says something about the pollen. My car has been covered with yellow pollen for the last two weeks, there's almost no point in getting it washed. If I leave my house windows open everything is covered, so I guess if you have allergies this might be a problem.
Everyone here so far has been really friendly and the weather is great. There are lots of things to do here and stores, malls, restaurants everywhere.
I had some concerns about making friends also because I'm outgoing and sociable. My boyfriend (moved here with him) is content at home with his hobbies and not worried about it. Tell your wife if she wants to send me a personal message or email (under profile) we can see if we have anything in common or at the very least I can answer some questions about the area for her. Either way good luck to both of you and I'm sure you will like it here as much as we do.

Thanks for the info! Winter sounds nicer there than here for sure! As far as the allergies to pollen and trees, etc., I don't think that is what bothers us. We're coated with yellow/green pollen here now too. No problems really. I really think(you're gonna laugh!) it is due to the poultry/ chicken farms around here!! Chickens stink and they cover all the fields around us with chicken litter. It's terrible! Anyways, thank you very much! Have a good day!
