Lake Murray, Timberlake Golf Course
I plan on visiting the Carolinas in a few weeks.
We are retired and I have been surfing the web for info.
I am interested in Timberlake on Lake Murray.
Can anyone tell me about the community around the golf course.

Timberlake is beautiful, with very nice homes. It's near Chapin, a small but growing town. Its a bit far out for working people, but great for retired people, who people who work at home. It also is in a very good school district. Lake Murray is great for swimming and fishing, etc. Lovely warm water to swim in. Golf course is very nice too.

I was very interested in Timberlake on Lake Murray.
I am retired still waiting for my wife to retire. We sold our home in Florida and are renting for a year. We decided to give the Carolinas a try.
Being that I have a Brother living near Columbia, I did a lot of research with his help in that area. Timberlake sounded perfect until I came across this article. See www.baycommunities.com/timberlake.asp (broken link)
Now that could actually be good for the community, until I read another article recently that said "They are also negociating for the golf course and marina".
What happens if the marina and golf course become private?

I haven't heard anything about that. Did you see it said set for construction in 2005?? They have nixed some things lately on the lake. Why don't you call and ask them, at the club house?

Timberlake - Chapin, SC
Timberlake Golf Club was purchased by the members in May,2008 and became Timberlake Country Club. It is an equity membership club accepting new members. (visit Timberlake Country Club - Home for more info) A new clubhouse, tennis courts and pool are under construction with completion in the fall of 2009. The golf course has under gone improvements and is in very good condition.
The Timberlake communities remain a great place to live with a mix of working and retired families.

We were there to visit just this past weekend. It is a beautiful location and pristine water. Hoping to spend more time in this area. Got info on the course--to join a full membership is $11,000 and social membership is $5000.
