I've been trapped in a couple bad tornadoes and more than a few hurricanes, and, this alone, has me wondering how nervous I would be living in Hilton Head--although, in all honesty, I feel I would love it there. But is the trade-off in security worth it? Granted, life has no guarantees, but why put myself--and my physical possesions like my home, auto, antiques, etc.--in harm's way. I just haven't made a definite decision, but....Greenville is looking pretty good.

Tootsie, since HH resonates with you, have you given serious consideration to Bluffton? I fully understand your concerns about living on the island, but Bluffton may provide less risk while giving you easy access to HH and Savannah.

I am so paranoid of Mother Nature who can be a mean old lady that, yes, I think I would go to Bluffton. I've done alot of looking at available homes, too, in that area and found some nice ones for less than $129K. Not too bad.

I'm not sure if you've done a lot of searching for Greenville homes too, but if you found some nice stuff in Bluffton around $129,000, you should find some really nice stuff around here. The median price of a single family home in Bluffton is about 46% higher than Greenville.

Greenville is hopping, for sure. I plan to definitely visit there as part of my searching for a place to live.

we just returned from greenville... although the downtown is beautiful, the surrounding areas were not anything special...in fact rather poorly kept/designed.
i was hoping for a nicely designed suburb, and unfortunately it isn't there.

so... we will relocate to aiken.

I'd love to know what areas you were driving around. Did you drive around the Eastside (Pelham Rd/Parkway/Batesville Rd near Michelin, etc) or the Simpsonville area? Or if you like historic, how about the Augusta Road area, or North Main areas (including Townes St or Earle Street)?

we knew going in we did not want to live in greenville proper. downtown is beautiful though!! we stayed in simpsonville, cute but.....
drove to greer, which has charm! but still needs to recover.
easley, travelers rest.... not what we were looking for.
did the "eastside drive" in the visitors guide...loved abbeville!!!
overall, what we saw in the area surrounding greenville was "sprawl", 6 lane roads(yikes) and traffic!!

my daughter had live on north main( you sold her house ), and she loved/loves greenville.... but for us aiken has the slower place, controlled growth, and obvious restrictions that surrounding greenville does not have.

we saw beautiful areas, and could easily find a home, but overall there were a few more deficits then positives for this country girl.
