Here in the Midlands, I get chewed up by thrips. At first, I thought it might be the no-see-ums/sand gnats but nope, little evil things called thrips.

Beware of fleas - they are terrible in the Lowcountry. Our vet tech laughs ever time a new transplant complains about all the fleas and how nothing will kill them. She gently reminds her new clients that they DID just move to a swamp and fleas come with it. Of course, I try to be a bit nicer about it but ... the bugs are really bad in parts of SC. Well, most of SC.
To stop fleas, you may have to switch flea medications every year so an immunity doesn't get built up. We are on our 4th flea med for our indoor dog and it's finally working. Yes - an indoor dog that gets professionally groomed once a month and is on prescription flea prevention can still get a terrible case of fleas. Nasty...

You better not move anywhere along the coast in NC either....
Or Florida...or anywhere it is hot and humid.

Our place in NC is about 60-ish miles from Charlotte...it is still hot but nowhere near as humid as here. Also the bugs aren't bad at all.
We do get different sorts of bugs but nothing like here.
Another added benefit of being up there is how much it cools down at night, here in the lowcountry it barely drops five degrees during the night,up there it gets downright chilly(at least to us ).
It is pretty amazing to be able to turn the A/C off at night.
