Smile Cottageville, SC ... can anyone tell me about it?

Myself, my husband, our 3 year old daughter and my parents are planning a move, from NJ, to South Carolina within the next 6 months. We're still searching for a home and doing a lot of reseach online. I was looking in the Summerville area but then, somehow I stumbled upon Cottageville a few days ago and it looks perfect. We found several homes we're interested in and are planning a trip down next week.

Is there anyone who knows anything about the town/area? Schools? Crime? Shopping? Restaurants? ANY little thing you can tell me would be SO helpful!

Thanks!

Cottageville is a small rural town in Colleton County with a population of less than 1000. You can literally drive through it in about 3 minutes and you better watch your speed. I have yet to ever go through Cottageville and not see someone pulled over. There are no shops, restaurants or grocery stores there. There is a gas station, a subway sandwich shop and a dollar store. For shopping you would have to drive to either Summerville or Walterboro. Walterboro would probably be closer. There are no traditional family neighborhoods there, just homes on their own parcel of land which could be anything from a trailer to a brick ranch.

Default Thanks!

Thanks for the reply. It's funny, after I posted this last night I was searching for info and came across an article about Cottagville's mayor getting caught in their own speed trap, doing 103 in a 55. The fine was $375!

In a separate incident that same mayor was also seriously injured in a car wreck while driving under the influence!

Default Wow

Wow, what a guy!
I didn't see/read anything about that.

Do you live near Cottageville/Walterboro?
Would you mind if I e-mailed you and asked you some questions about the area?

Default From NJ to SC

I'm from NJ orig. Where abouts are you moving from? Cottageville is pretty nice for a rural town but don't expect to have much to do. I live in Summerville and it has a lot to do and it is easy to get to Chas for even more. Dorchester Co. (S'ville) has the best public schools around if that is a concern for you.
