Cost of Health Insurance
Can someone ballpark monthly cost for family of 4 health insurance in SC? York county to be exact, if it matters. In NY we pay between $1100 and $1800 depending upon coverage type. My husband and I were both self employed for a while and may be the same in SC, so this would be a relocation cost issue to take into consideration. Thanks!!

Just wanted to say we are in the same park as you - paying 1,000 for health insurance in NY - and wondering how it will reduce when we relocate.

Just discussing this with coworker in NYC
I do not have insurance for my family right now because 1. we are all extremely healthy and 2. the cost would prevent us from eating well, it's that expensive! I'm in Massachusetts. My coworker in NYC and I are BOTH contemplating a move to Florida for various reasons, one of which includes the cost of health insurance. We both work for a very small co. (we're the only employees) so we don't have insurance benefits.
I went to uhc.com for a quote for my family in Florida (which is obviously not SC, but it's sure not Mass or NY), and it would be $300 for a copay plan which is not horrible but less than fantastic.
As of Sept. of this year, MA is actually requiring BY LAW for everyone to have insurance! It's crazy. We're getting out of here AND we're getting insurance somewhere else...

We have health insurance through my husbands work...so we have not had the need to seek it out on a private basis. Not sure if this well help but I will provide a couple of links for you below;
https://www.doi.sc.gov/Eng/Public/Co...Cconsumer.aspx
http://www.usnews.com/usnews/health/...htm#commercial
http://www.smartmoney.com/consumer/i...story=20040921
Now this last one will give you a ballpark figure by just using a zip code and birthdates (you do not have to provide personal information to receive a quote)...I used a zip code of 29708 (which is for Fort Mill/Tega Cay, SC)

thanks ltc. Those were great resources. I'm not sure the total cost ends up being less, but the monthly premium sure is. Up here you pay a large monthly payment, and there's no deductible or coinsurance, so it pays if you go to the doctor a lot (which we don't, I can never even remember my doctors name!)
