You can't justify the actions of one simply by comparing it to the actions of another, and FYI I am certain you can go on a video sharing site like the one that is posted and find many, many more videos of whites calling for oblideration of black race, Muslims calling for oblideration of Jews, etc., but you chose a black man talking about obliderating the white race because you knew it would minimize the racist comments made by SC white civic leaders. This is why I say that greater racist acts of one race does not justify lesser racist acts of another. If that were the case white people would be well ahead in that game, with the whole slavery, segregation, KKK, neo-nazi, manifest destiny, stealing land from Indians, apartheid, third reich holocaust thing. But accepting the truth is not an easy thing to do, so we cry when a Hispanic woman is appointed to Supreme Court and make racially charged jokes about the president, all with the hopes and dreams that one day we will control everything once more.
Very well said.

It's time for black people to take the attitude that they'll just consider the source when idiots make racist statements or tell racist jokes. As a white person there's nothing a black person can say to me about my being white or about the white race that could hurt my feelings or make me mad. Now that we have a black president and so many people are getting positions of power regardless of their race or ethnic background, maybe black people can start to feel that way more.

Those of you that have a financial or emotional interest in portraying the US as raciest
will always find rare and isolated instances of rudeness and promote them as the norm.
But we are much better than that.
If these attempts at humor are examples of racism in America today we have no problem.

Wrong about what? In my belief that a majority of South Carolinians would vote to have the confederate flag removed from the state house grounds? I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree, but I feel that the current generation of voters realizes how silly it is to continue to allow a 19th century relic to attract negative attention to our state and cause boycotts which hinder our economy. If someone values the flag's historical value, it should not matter whether it flies on the state house grounds or in a memorial in a less prominent location.

Why did you bold, capitalize, and underline "Confederate War Memorial?" The fact that it is a memorial does not supersede the fact that it is located on the state house grounds.

I don't need anyone telling me I need to educate myself. Thanks.

Financial or emotional interest? What are you talking about? Racism is pervasive in the U.S. It gets manifested in multiple forms; some forms are overt and others are very subtle. The confederate flag flying at the Capitol Bldg is one of its most overt manisfestations in South Carolina.

If we think that racism only gets manifested in "rare isolated instances of rudeness" and "attempts at humor," then we have a bigger problem than realized.

Because when the NAACP had to drum up some revenue and made up this non-issue people in SC were polled....and the overwhelming majority wanted it kept.
It only garnered negative attention from those seeking more contributions from those who feel guilty about the past....

Because it is flying ABOVE the Confederate War Memorial...a VERY apt place for the flag to fly...

You come across as ignorant of the facts....so it applied as far as I can tell.

Some of the most bigoted people around are black,of course in today's PC world we should never mention that.
Let me guess, you are one of these angry white men who is upset that those other than yourself are finally getting a turn to bat and now you feel left out and not quite as powerful as you once were, so you look to garner sympathy by claiming to be part of "the new white minority", oppressed because you have to share the swingset. Give me a break. You probably think that racism is in the past, people "should stop whining about it", and Obama only got elected due to reverse discrimination and "Hollywood". Am I in the ballpark?
