I would contact the Girl Scouts Mtns to Midlands. Sumter County is in their region. They should have the information you need.

I didn't post because I don't have contact info or any specifics, but I know there are Girlscout/Brownie troops on/around Shaw. My daughter is attending Shaw Heighs on-base for 2nd & 3rd grade and at orientation for the start of this last school year there was a booth set up for them. Plus they'll sometimes be set up at Walmart selling cookies.

Oakland is awesome! I loved when my daughter was at OPS for K/1st. They were very proactive and kept the parents involved with monthly events and the like. They also had an after-school program for accelerated students - something that's missing from Shaw Heights. And their fall festival is a nice event. I even took my daughter back for it this (last) year.

Yes, my daughter is starting 3rd grade which is her 2nd & final year at Shaw Heights. Last year I wasn't impressed with the place (no after-school program for advanced students, a couple incidents with the teach, the orientation was a cluster with no organization, fewer programs to keep the parents involved) but this year I'm hoping they've made some much-needed improvements. For starters they placed my daughter in a Talented and Gifted program which, apparently, isn't an after-school program but an all-day every-day program, so I'm excited about that. I missed Tuesday's orientation but stopped by after work to get my pass and could tell just by the layout that they had done a much better job. I don't think it's a *bad* school - I hope I'm not misinterpreted - I was just really impressed and spoiled by OPS.

The bus runs pretty early (our stop is at 6:18AM) but thankfully they (both schools so far) have breakfast (free).
