I was stationed on PI (after bootcamp, also there) in the mid-90s and never really had much of a problem with roaches/Palmetto Bugs, but I was in the barracks, not in a house. The easiest (and cheapest) way to keep bugs out is to keep a clean home. Also if you're living out in town, off PI, then look for something in a higher traffic area and not so secluded/wooded.

If it makes you feel better, the roaches in SC have nothing on the ones we had in our barracks in Mississippi. When we would feild day on Thursdays, some guys would actually play hockey with them in the halls because they were around 6" in length.

On a related note, has anyone else noticed an unusual increase in the number of centipedes you've seen lately? The ones I'm seeing are 4-6" in length and probably .75-1" in diameter in red/black. I've seen 7 or 8 in my driveway just in the last week (2 this morning alone).

Don't want bugs? Don't move here. Oh by the way, it gets HOT here in the summer. Not warm, not tepid, not sweltering, but HOT. Cook your feet on the sidewalk HOT. Thats in the month of May. Wait until August. A salute to your husband and his service to our country! Bring your Gatorade, sunshade and Yankee repellant.

Hey, Mauldin move in, PI stands for Parris Island. Get to know the state you adopted. I have lived here all my life and wouldn't consider moving anywhere else.

South Carolinians go to the "beach", not the "coast".

sorry, as was stated earlier it could also be Pawley's Island which I am familiar with. If questions are too hard for you to understand why respond at all?

Don't know if it's related but I also just realized that I haven't seen a single Skink this year. Odd...
