Default Coastal towns with Little tourism

Looking for Southern Coastal towns with very little tourism, if there is such a thing. I grew up in a prime vacation spot with a lot of tourism, but that atmosphere is not for me anymore, but also cannot be far from the ocean & beaches! Having a hard time narrowing down areas, especially with the tourism aspect. Thanks for your help!

Edisto Beach has many rental homes that get quite a bit of use in June, July, and August but for the most part the area is not covered with all the tourism related beach wear stores and the like. Since the surrounding waters are part of the Ace Basin there is lots of room to roam.

It doesn't exist in SC as many move ins have created the "we are just like everywhere" else scenario. Drugstores, banks and shopping on nearly every corner. If there isn't one near you, wait a minute and it will be built. We southerners will sell the dirt under our feet for a quick buck.

Totally agree, we went there for the first time last month, and really enjoyed it! Only 1 grocery store (Piggly Wiggly) and a handful of other stores & restaurants and that's it on the island!

We went to the state park (costs $4/person), but you don't really need to as there is plenty of other places to access the beach from, just won't have a restroom nearby if you don't have a rental or park near the state park.

Highly recommend it for those people like myself who just want the beach and not all the other crap around it when I go to the ocean!

I forgot to mention that McClellanville is a nice quiet place to live but it is far from the beach if you don't have a boat. Bulls Bay is a wonderful boating area and you could end up on a beach alone if you can get out there;-)

Edisto Beach!! It's quiet and the tourism hasn't really made it there yet. There's nothing for kids to do but if you desire peace and quiet and no tourists and fast food joints, Edisto Beach is the place for you!

Seabrook Island, SC is gated, private; requires a card ID in the windshield to access the island. Pretty pricey homes, but there are rentals.

Kiawah Island, SC is close by. A very very few shops. Exclusive Island.

Nearest grocery store is probably a Walmart--20 to 30 minutes away.

Close enough to Charleston, SC to enjoy the city.

Kiawah Island has The Shops at Freshfields (a "town center" atomosphere), which includes Newtons Farms (a large grocery store owned by Buzzy Newton).....then there are two grocery stores on Johns Island (12 miutes from Seabrook and Kiawah) : Piggly Wiggly and Food Lion. Kiawah and Seabrook are both semi-secluded beach communities without all the tourist trappings of other local beaches and I also second Edisto as a quiet beach town.
