Moving to Florence HELP!!!!
Hello,
I'm Jenn and I will be moving with my mother, brother, and daughter to Florence, south carolina in early June. My mother was born there and that is where all of her family is, my family of course. The problem is that I am moving from Scottsdale, Arizona and I am used to a fast paced world and from what I hear Florence is the opposite of that. I am concerned about employment and my 4 year old daughters education. If anyone can give my any advice or support it would be greatly appreciated. Thx

Hi Jenn, I'm sure someone from Florence will reply and help you out with the specific information you're looking for. In the meantime, try doing a search on the forum for Florence, I'm certain you'll find lots of info.

I moved here from New York City about 7 years ago. A lot of people did not think that I could handle the slower pace, but that is exactly what I was looking for regagrding quality of life. Living in NY for 37 years, it was time to go. As far as I am concerned, life is what yo make of it anywhere you are. Make sure you keep your connections from AZ just in case you require any specialty items. You can usually request your grocery store to stock anything that you are used to aving on a regular basis. As far as employment, do not expect a huge salary. They claim the cost of living is less, but I do not see it. Food was much cheaper in NY if you can believe that. I am a Loan Officer and work for myself, so salary is what I make of it and I do not have to answer to a 9 to 5. If you have any specifc questions, just give me a Holler.

I moved here from Columbia 39 years ago and couldn't wait to get out. However, when the opportunity came several years later, I'd made friends, found a church, doctors, favorite restaurants, etc. Turned down four offers to transfer out and am now "semi-retired" here. If you want hussle and bustle, move to Columbia, Charleston, Greenville, etc. Florence has definately grown from a small town to a small city. As a matter of fact, we "moved to the country" four years ago, about ten minutes out the Interstate. Wanted the slower, quite life. Education is fine if your child studies and applies themselves. One of my daughters is a RN, the other a school teacher. Both my wife and I have a masters. We all attended public schools. However, my grandchildren are in a private Christian school. You might consider this. You couldn't get us to move elsewhere for any amount of salary. Those who complain want to change the slower Southern lifestyle to where they came from. However, if they adapt rather than complain, like I did, they'll be much happier.
