Default Unemployment Program

Hello, I was just wondering if anyone has any idea what this is. I applied for unemployment benefits last week. Do not yet know if I have been approved as I received a letter telling me I will have a phone interview in about two weeks. Well today there was another letter in the mail telling me I need to come to the unemployment office for "Worker Information For Early Intervention And Assistance Program". I tried to call and ask what this is, the people just kept transferring me from one rep to another and noone was able to help me. Just wondering if anyone else has ever had to go to this, and if so...what is it? Thanks everyone!

You might be better off just going in and getting the info. Many state offices have had their staffs cut drastically and , in California at least, they are not set up to answer individual inquiries. You're dealing with a factory. If you want the benefits, just go along with what they want, don't expect them to justify their requests to you individually. Sorry but that's the way it is in a lot of places now. The recession has overwhelmed the social services delivery system. Good luck-hope your claim is approved.

Yes, I've gone to it twice. It's no big deal. You have to bring in a list of jobs you've applied to recently, plus your employment history (bring your resume to refer to, far simpler to just copy from it). They will ask a few questions about the jobs you have had in the past, what your talents are, what days you're available, etc. Nothing major.

It lasts anywhere from an hour or more, depending on how many people are with you. The first time for me was a little over an hour, 2nd time was 45 mins. If you don't go, you'll be denied.

They may also give you info on what else they have to offer (I didn't find this part out til a YEAR after I was on unemployment, and my 2nd time going there), like resume help, typing tests, and a few other things.

Good luck!!!
