Myrtle Beach is the closest. Depending on where you live in Ft. Mill it can take 3 to 3 1/2 hours to get there. Also depends on which route you take. We get there from Lancaster in aobut 2 1/2 hours. After a while you know the short cuts that the tourist don't know about
Springmaid Beach is nice. That's the name of the hotel. It is in MB, but down the lower end and away from everything else.

Well, once you are settled in your new home..we will actually be pretty close to each other and I can make it to Charleston, SC in 3 hours (interstate all the way)..while Myrtle Beach takes a little longer..right around 3 1/2 (there are several ways down to MB..but the difference is..you are unable to take the interstate all the way there like you can Charleston, SC).

If you are looking to stay away from the crowds & touristy area of Myrtle Beach, consider Huntington Beach State Park or Litchfield Beach.
I assume you are staying a night or two... try the Hampton Inn on Route 17 and Willbrook Blvd. They just did their rooms over & it is quite nice. They have a complimentary breakfast & has a pool too.
Huntington Beach is one of my favorites... http://www.southcarolinaparks.com/pa...park/1020.aspx
This will give you the low-down on prices and what's going on for the weekend.
Litchfield Beach is nice too, free but parking is limited. You can ask the people at the hotel desk for directions... both beaches are close enough to ride bikes also. There are a few bike rental companies around.

Huntington is beautiful. Lots of nature all around. We saw at least 6 alligators while we were there last June. There's a nature center the kids would love. They get to touch lots of things. The beach itself is untouched, very nice, lots of shells, sand dollors, star fish, etc. If you don't stay there, you can go in for the day and enjoy the park.
