Smile looking for quaint small beach town if it still exists

Hi, I just found this site and would like any ideas/advice you might have. I am looking to relocate to a quaint small beach town in SC or NC with good schools, good medical facilities, economy, low crime and upbeat family oriented community.

I'm a single mom with 2 kids so I want to be in a place that's great for my kids, and one of my kids is 13 so I'd like to have enough activities for him to stay busy and with a nice crowd as well as enough young families as I have a baby as well.

I'm a teacher, but I will be teaching online so I don't see the jobs as an issue, but it would be nice to have a stable economy as well in that area.
I love the Waynesville, NC area if you happen to be familiar with that area, and am looking for a similar "feel" to raise my children in an artsy small town with small town values. I am originally from NoVA and miss the arts, the parks and the values down here in Florida, which is why I am looking to move.

I have considered the Wrightville Beach area just b/c I've heard a lot about it, but would like to pick your brain for other starting points.

I am looking for housing that is still affordable enough, and would love an area that hasn't been "discovered" yet and still has some fixer uppers.

I know this sounds like a lot, but like everything else, I know you can't have everything...

THANKS FOR ANY HELP YOU CAN GIVE ME!

Can you please read my post "What part of Sumter is South Sumter?" I have so many questions. Thank you in advance for ANY answers at all that you can give me. And thank you for your time even if you can't answer any of my questions. You seem like a wonderful person and I hope to meet a lot of people like you if and when I make the move!

Default kat2k has not been on this site for close to 2 months now.

This is just a suggestion for you folks that are asking questions on this post/thread.....the person who started this has not been on this site now for close to 2 months.

While it appears there is a poster or two trying to help some of you....I think you all may be better served if you start your own Thread (if you don't find what your looking for after using the "Search" feature).... so your questions do not get lost in the crowd and/or you get folks that are truly familiar with the area in question...

Example...I am on this site all the time (like many others)...yet this is the first time I bothered to look at this...due to the fact I did not want to step on the toes of the original poster.

Again this is just a suggestion!

Hello! My Husband and I will be visiting this weekend and would like any advice on places to see, nightlife, areas to visit etc. This visit is basically a chance for us to get a feel for the city. We are in our late thirties w/3 children ages 4-12. We are being transferred to the area in a few months and would like to check out neighborhoods that are family friendly and fun w/out being too overly organized and narrow minded. We like cultural events as well as outdoor activities (boating). My husbands job is near downtown and commuting is not an issue for us. This weekend will be a trip w/out kids so city nightlife for my husband and I are also on the agenda. I know this is a tall order but long story short: Looking for good areas to live and romantic places for a weekend get away all rolled into one. Any direction would help us tremendously. Thank you in advance!
(We're looking near Lake Murray in Irmo if that helps narrow it down but are open to other suggestions w/good schools).

I am bidding on a home in Sumter. It's on Pinewood road. I was wondering if you know if this is a bad area or not. I couldn't tell by driving around because it was rather hot and I guess people were staying inside. The blocks I was on looked well taken care of and the Food Lion and Bi-Lo stores (plaza) looked fairly new. Anyone who knows this area...I would appreciate your input. I currently work in Columbia, SC and will continue to do so but the housing market in Sumter seems to be a great financial bargin.

Default question to all upcountry natives...

Hey y'all...

I'm interested in obtaining information for relocation purposes and would like an overall comparison of Oconee, Pickens, Greenville, Anderson, and Abbeville Counties. Info on things such as churches, taxes, existing housing prices, availability of raw land for building a home, crime rate, population density, demographics, hospitality to newcomers, etc. would be very helpful. Don't need info on schools... my wife and I homeschool eight great kids! Thanks and God bless.
