Default Thinking of moving to Greenville

Hi,
We are thinking of relocating to SC next year, and Greenville is currently at the top of our list. Our main reason to relocate is to find a nicer climate than we have in Wisconsin. Are there any cities that have a longer growing season than Greenville, yet aren't terribly humid in the summer? (We realize that all of SC is humid in the summer, and are fine with this, so I just mean relatively speaking.)

I am an artist who paints landscapes, so I'm really looking to find a part of your state that stays green for the majority of the year. We would prefer to live near a large city, but would consider a small town.

We are visiting Greenville after Christmas to explore, but are open to checking out other areas as well if you have any suggestions.

Thank you for your advice.

I've been looking at places in the Myrtle Beach area for winter rentals. What is close to MB but not in the middle of all the tourist stuff? I've heard about out of the way places like Murrells Inlet but we'd also like to be close enough so we wouldn't become bored.

Have you considered Georgetown? I visted there. It's about 20-30 miles south of MB and it seems nice. Not too secluded, but quieter than Myrtle Beach. Can't tell you about home prices, etc. Some of the areas are quite expensive to live in.

My husband and I are looking in the South Carolina to retire. We visited Camden, SC and we loved it. We would like to explore more places in S.C. to live. I understand that you said that Chapin and Mount Pleasantville were also nice places to live. Are there any area of each city we should stay away from when looking for a place to live?

From what I know about NJ and SC -

NJ has the highest car insurance in the country so you probably won't have to worry about the cost in SC. Even from moving from NJ to PA my insurance is lower.
And being in the state capital metro area, there of course are more of a variety of places to eat than in the smaller areas. Maybe not as good as NJ if you're used to all the ethnic areas there but good enough

My wife and I are in real estate. I have a sister who lives near conway. How is real estate selling near myrtle beach? I have been told that it is down 20 to 30% there and charlston.
Not sure if the recession will be hitting there like it has in other parts of the country.

Real estate is down everywhere. SC is becoming a hot spot along with NC especially for northerners,so when they're not buying you know the market is bad!
