I have heard that there are many jobs opening up right now and that's a big plus coming from Nothern Michigan. My husband is in Carpentry has a trailer filled with tools and is ready to build remodel or whatever. Hows the housing market down there? Anything you can tell me would be great. We wouldn't mind renting or buying a fixer upper

I am an agent and you do not want Elizabeth Street!! There are some deals there to be sure and some nice old homes near there that are in better locations.
The market is a little slow compared to past yeras but not too bad. You should be able to find something you like. It is a buyers market right now.
In Anderson you do need to know the areas.
We do have a lot lower taxes. Everyone I work with from other states loves the move they made.

Snakes don't really bother me though. I have been researching S Carolina, N. Carolina and even Tenn., but Tenn. doesn't seem very friendly and I hear there isn't as many jobs there. Our kids are grown, but they will be relocating at some point also. Two of them may want to continue their college education out of Mich. Greenville/Spartanburg sounds promising but I would want to live outside of the city, in a smaller town. I like to garden, but someone told me that S Carolina is all red clay. Is that true? Also, are there swimming lakes there. or are they just fishing lakes. If any of you natives could provide me with some info I'd sure appreciate it.

We are not just red clay. My grandmother had great gardens. We have some beauitful soil because of all the trees. There is some red clay but it is not everywhere.
The land just needs some trees on it.

Hi there - looking for some help from a realtor. I live in Blacksburg, SC, right on the Shelby, NC border. (VERY country.) Long story short, moved here from WI in May of '05. Bought an acre of land and built a brand new doublewide on it. However, the appraisal was jacked up higher than what houses in the area go for (Dumb Northerner I was) and the lender gave me a hefty loan.
I am looking to do a short sale. I have had the house on the market 2x, 6 mos. apiece. I was asking just enough to pay the mtg and commission/closing costs/etc. I need to find a good realtor in this area. The problem is right down the street in NC (Back of my property butts up on NC) are about 4 foreclosures of comparable houses/land.
I am really stuck and really need to get back to WI. I can't afford to stay here any longer. But, I have been making my monthly mtg payments on time. I did get a short sale packet last March but can't submit it until I get an offer ...... which I never got. Only got 2 couples to see the house out of one year of being on the market.
Any suggestions would be helpful. Please don't criticize me for the bad move I made I was going on the word of someone who lived down here and wanted my family to move down here for a "fantastic" job opportunity.
Thanks.

I am moving from orlando and want to be in a safe smaller town (city) near the beach. I live alone with my little chihuhaua sp?
I do not want an apt, will rent to make sure I like it then buy. I don't work so I am not worried about location in relation to job. I like quiet but fun, I am early 50.
I need to move there really soon, like next two weeks.

Hi Kat. I saw your post and I do need some advice. I am looking at a possible position with Beaufort Glass & Mirror. Curious about a couple of things that maybe you can help with. How often do you have severe flooding down in your area? Being from central Fl. i'm used to bugs but my wife isn't. How bad are the no-seeums down there and are they around constantly or just when the tide lets out. I'm trying to get as much info as I can. I will be visiting for a week the 1st week in March. Thanks, Dwight dakasis@comcast.net

Hey guys, I am looking at the possibility of moving to Conway in the next couple of weeks. I am starting a job at Coastal Carolina University. I looking for either 1 br apartments or a single room in a house, preferably near the university. I am looking for a quiet place basically. Which area in Conway is more peaceful compared to the rest? Also how about hurricanes or tornadoes? Are wooden houses very much vulnerable?

Maybe look in Summerville, SC--a suburb of Charleston. 45-minutes to the beach tops.

moving to sc mid summer 2008
Looking at moving to sc by mid summer. We need help with finding a good area. We have vacationed in North Myrtle Beach for the past 6 years, and love the area. We are a family of 3, the little one is 4. My husband does residental/commercial plumbing, and I do medical billing. We are looking for area about 2 hrs from beach. We both will need jobs, and a house to purchase. We are also looking for good schools, new home construction, and shopping.
Thanks for your time!

Hi,
I'm not Kat but I'm also a native of SC. I also live in the area that you are speaking of. Congrats on your job with CCU! I've heard that it is a great school to work for. Second, Socastee is a great area to live in. It would not take you long to get back and forth to work in the morning either. There are many areas in Socastee that have that rural feel.
Good luck with your move!
