worried about moving to charleston, sc
My husband my be offered a great job in charleston, sc, but i am a little worried. We are in our early 20s and I am just concerned that it may not be suited to fill our wants and needs for adventure, nightlife, and shopping. Plus, where is a good and VERY safe place to live?!

Well you will receive different opinions on this, but some would say that for 20-somethings looking for a hot locale to live with nightlife and shopping options, Charleston is near the top of the list.
In Charleston you have the tourist element, the people who are old money and live in the million dollar row houses, and the young crowd like yourself. Lots of my friends also in their 20's from around the state try to make it to Charleston every year to start their professional lives--if you want that kind of vibe, it is highly desirable.
You are also looking for a safe place to live--some of the suburbs to look at would be Mt. Pleasant and the West Ashley area, as well as Summerville (which is a little farther from downtown) and Goose Creek. These are some of the places you would want to look for safety/where young families usually wind up living.

North Charleston is rough. Downtown Charleston, West Ashley, Mt Pleasant, etc are pretty great, but much more expensive. I, personally, would be fine working in N. Chas., but wouldn't particularly want to live there.
However, at the end of the day, Charleston has all of the things you asked for (Shopping, Adventure, Nightlife) in spades. I mean, the shopping is top-shelf, and the restaurants are great. Really great. Among the best I've encountered, per capita. Good nightlife, too, if a little college-y if you get too close to C of C. Then you have beaches, boating, creek kayaking, etc.
Great town.

dsobo,
Charleston is a lovely place. We too are relocating there.
There is a forum that is all about Charleston, you might want to put a post
there. There are some really nice people that have a lot of info to share and
can answer all of your questions.
As far as North Charleston, there is a small section that is ok but overall I wouldn't choose there.
Good luck! C'mon over and chat in the Charleston forum.

The South Carolina forum has different sub forums. At the main page you will see Columbia, Charleston, Greenville, Mytle Beach, etc. Just click on Charleston as opposed to South Carolina forum.
