Boeing awards 787 Dreamliner Assembly Line to SC over Seattle
Boeing has announced this afternoon the 2nd assembly line for the 787 Dreamliner will be built in SC instead of the Seattle area. It will be constructed in the North Charleston area where there is already a factory making part of the fuselage for the plane. The decision was swayed, in part, by the very strong incentive package the SC Legislature voted in for Boeing.
This is a very significant announcement for SC. It ranks up there with the BMW announcement that a plant would be built in the upstate. I believe that Boeing must have at least 3800 employees at this plant and make $750M in investments. There should be a lot of symbiotic employment to go with it.

Incentive package was great and all but Boeing is just really tired of all the unions in Seattle and their demands and their striking. No unions in South Carolina so it will save Boeing (and BMW) a ton on labour costs.

Just like the BMW plant in the Upstate created jobs in other parts of the state (ie: ports in Charleston), the Boeing announcement will eventually create jobs in other parts of the state also. So like the OP said, this is very good news for SC.
We all know that SC needs some good news for a change to overshadow all of the recent bad political news.

Boeing Doubles Bet on 787 Scheme That’s 2 Years Late (Update1) - Bloomberg.com
bloomberg writers seem to agree with you, redline, and I do too, that unions were a big factor in this decision. A state's attitude towards labor will make-or-break a deal these days, just like when NCR Corp moved its HQ from Ohio to Georgia this year.
but I agree that this is great news.

That means more jobs for SC residents! So that's great news indeed!

Of course, g-man430.
One aeronautics spokesperson cautions that it is extremely wishful thinking to expect a lot of spin-off jobs related to Boeing's presence. Time will tell. At the end of the day it might just be a story about 4,000 sorely needed jobs.

This is welcome news for an otherwise bleak economic year in SC..and even I'm happier they decided on Charleston.
